Saltwater Underground Railroad Experience

The Saltwater Underground Railroad Experience (SURE) is a virtual tour powered by Google Earth™ and website, that retraces the lesser known underground railroad path that enslaved people traveled through Spanish Florida to The Bahamas. The tour currently features 18 related sites and provides links to additional resources including newspaper articles, peer-reviewed and source documents. On the website, visitors can access photos, videos, book titles, and an interactive timeline to further their knowledge of the Saltwater Railroad. Since 2024, we have been proudly listed as an official National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program.
